Illinois' 1986-87 men's basketball team finished eleventh in the national rankings, finishing with a 23-8 record and placing fourth in the Big Ten standings. It's a season that will unfortunately be remembered for an opening-round NCAA Tournament loss to Austin Peay. The team was captained by the top three scorers, Ken Norman, Doug Altenberger and Tony Wysinger. Other key players included Lowell Hamilton, Glynn Blackwell, Jens Kujawa, Stephen Bardo, Kendall Gill and Larry Smith.
