The 1979-80 Illini basketball team was the first to play post-season basketball in 17 years, making it to the semifinals of the NIT. Rotating into the starting lineup for 22-13 Illinois included Eddie Johnson, Mark Smith, James Griffin, Reno Gray, Perry Range and Rob Judson. Derek Holcomb, Neil Bresnahan. Rob Judson, Levi Cobb and Kevin Bontemps came off the bench most of the time.
