The 2003-04 squad, Coach Bruce Weber's first Illini team, won the University of Illinois' third Big Ten championship in four years. Its 26-7 record included a loss in the Sweet Sixteen to Duke. Illinois' starting lineup included Dee Brown, Deron Williams, James Augustine, Luther Head and Roger Powell Jr. Other standout players included Nick Smith, Rich McBride, Brian Randle, Jack Ingram, Warren Carter and Jerrance Howard.
